Privacy Policy

The most important part: your family data stays with you

FamilyTree Free is built so that your family tree data (people, photos, notes, contacts) is stored exclusively in your browser on your device (IndexedDB). There is no user account, no server and no cloud sync. Your family data is never transmitted to us or to third parties. Backups are files you create yourself on your own device.

Hosting

This website is hosted as a static site by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit the site, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data (e.g. IP address, date and time of access) to deliver and protect the website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Local storage (no tracking)

To operate the app, your browser stores data locally on your device: your family tree (IndexedDB) and your cookie choice (localStorage). This data never leaves your device and cannot be accessed by us. You can delete it anytime via your browser settings.

Google Analytics (only with consent)

Only if you consent via the cookie notice (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, Section 25 (1) TDDDG) do we use Google Analytics 4 by Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to understand which pages are visited. Without consent, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. Google sets cookies for this (e.g. _ga) and processes pseudonymous usage data. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 neither logs nor stores IP addresses. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA, which is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Your family tree data is not affected — it never leaves your device. You can withdraw your consent at any time (button below). More in Google's privacy policy.

Contacting us by email

If you email us, we process your address and the content of your message to answer your request (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Emails are received via Gmail, a service of Google Ireland Limited. We delete them once they are no longer needed for answering and no statutory retention obligation applies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). Since we never hold your family tree data, these rights only concern the services listed above.
